Young boy looking to fulfill his ultimate dream. Creator, writer, and artist Eiichiro Oda describes One Piece as the story he wanted to read as a boy. One Piece mixes a unique art style, an expansive setting, comedy, and a ton of action to create an imaginative and romanticized tale of piracy.

The artwork of One Piece starts with a very simple style. The designs initially seem very cartoonish with much of the character designs showing more North American influence than that from its Japanese origins. One Piece's Japanese origins do work their way up in the form of the familiar big eyes and the typical expressions of many of the characters. The artwork and settings come across as timeless in their presentation. While the setting points back to a romanticized vision of the great sailing age, the characters--in both their mannerisms and clothing--are set firmly in modern times. While the male character designs are often quite varied and unique, the female designs do get a bit repetitive. Mr. Oda admits that female characters are often the hardest for him to draw.

Kudo Shinichi, a high school student, is considered as the Sherlock Holmes of the 21st century. While at Tropical Island with his childhood friend, Mouri Ran, he witnesses a shady deal take place and is suddenly knocked unconcious and given a drug that would kill him. Instead of killing him, his appearance is changed to that of a seven year old. Now as Edogawa Conan (a combination of detective story writers from Ranpo Edogawa and Aruthur Conan Doyle), he's hiding out in his childhood friend's place, which her father happens to run as a Detective Agency, solving cases in order to find those that gave him the drug.

Card Captor Sakura

Sakura Kinomoto: Voiced by Sakura Tange (Japanese...HA, the irony), Carly McKillip (English)

Throughout the series, Sakura shows many sides of her magnetic personality. While in one instant she'll freeze, shutter and even panic at the mere mention of anything scary (especially ghosts), she'll show unwavering bravery and willpower in the next in the face of actual danger. She is also extremely cheerful, kind and selfless towards the people she holds dear. On one specific occasion she offers Syaoran, her rival in the quest to obtain the cards, "The Sand" despite the fact that she had earned it fair and square.

Sailor Moon

Like Metal Gear Solid and Hello Kitty, Sailor Moon is a seemingly random sequence of English words, ostensibly put together by some Japanese person with no regards to their meaning or grammatical function. And yet, like the other two examples, they form a combination recognisable even to the lay man. The reason why such a bizarre collocation trips off the tongue has something to do with the anime's long-lasting appeal. An appeal which I am only beginning to understand.

Naruto Shippunden

"Naruto: Shippuuden" or "Naruto: The Hurricane Chronicles" is the latest installment to the Naruto series that has recently started to air in Japan and is still in production with new episodes each week.

As the series is fairly new, it has yet to be released to the United States. There's a high chance that Naruto: Shippuuden will not be released to North America for perhaps another year or two as it takes awhile to come up with new episodes. There are not enough episodes for a set produced to have a license sold to a United States or Canadian anime studio. Once the series is licensed in North America, there is a long process of interviewing voice actors.
